Wow. The entire Youtube Live weekend was overwhelming, and we're still processing it all. The actual event was definitely entertaining (with our personal favorite being Bo Burnham's Song), but the highlight for us was all the people we met. There was so much potential for pretentiousness, with everyone obsessing over subscriber numbers and viewcounts, but we can honestly say that we were privileged to get to know some amazing people. Last night's late-night scene really captures how surreal the whole thing was. We were playing a highly competitive game of Cranium at 3AM with sxephil, smosh, nigahiga, happyslip, kevjumba, Mr. Safety, charlestrippy, Bo Burnham, Joe Bereta, shaycarl, and a number of other people. We kept thinking we should turn on a camera and create the best collab video in history, but we really didn't want to be "those guys".
The whole weekend really captured the fact that the internet, and more specifically Youtube, has created its own culture and community. People with unique talents are able to do what they love for people who appreciate it, and the combined voice of that community (both the producers and the consumers) holds great potential and requires great responsibility. We're just glad we were able to be there and be part of something much bigger than Rhett&Link.
Here's some video evidence of our time at Youtube Live, including MC Hammer losing his phone at his after-party:

Didn't catch much of LIVE, but knew you guys probably wouldn't be on much....so there's my excuse :D
On the whole stage issue...no biggie, ya had to know the good guys are always the underdogs....
And really...all of us are TOTALLY impressed/proud that y'all are this web community's leaders/mascots ;)
Hope y'all had a beneficial trip....and that you get cushy back at home this week.

Yeah its too bad though YouTube's culture and community can't stay in the black for google.
ZING!!!!!!!!
Anyway I'm still suprised you guys didn't get on the stage and stacking cup kids did. I totally remember the craze stacking cup kids. They're all the rage on youtube......I think....

I am inclined to agree with jardinprayer, there wasn't nearly enough Rhett&Link coverage and I thought you deserved better than the back of a truck as your stage. But you two being the consumate professionals that you are made the best of it and put on a great show for the crowd! Wish I coulda been there.
Next year's YouTubeLive? Rhett&Link on the MAIN STAGE!! :D
Mamacitax7 · Nov 24, 2008 12:27am

You guys were awesome! Great seeing you!

I thought Youtube Live was Okay. I was hoping it would be better though. I wish you guys got video of Cranium at 3AM. So did MC Hammer ever get his phone back?
Jackie · Nov 23, 2008 8:16pm
I think the best part of the event was the outdoor festival. I didn't like that Link stole my tickets from me while I waited in line to get in. I'm glad I got to meet you guys.
Q (confidential247) · Nov 23, 2008 8:13pm
I did watch... When I tuned in, I saw you guys were backstage and right when I clicked to watch, the segment with the two of you ended. :-(
Youtube live was very cool! Another event that will go down in the history of the internet!
Anna · Nov 23, 2008 8:09pm
This goes on my list of things that are officially awesome.
But, you really shoulda gotten a video of that Cranium game...
Nicole (RandomNigel) · Nov 23, 2008 7:57pm
I watch it and I loved it. It was a lot of fun wish that I was there with u guys.
Crystal · Nov 23, 2008 7:56pm
I watched about 8/10 of it. I appreciated the 3 streams, yet none of them had enough Rhett & Link! It was far better-produced than I expected, really. Something about the two of you being relegated to the back of a tractor-trailer, though, offends me. Still, I enjoyed the qik updates from your budget hotel room and coming along for the ride with you. You kept a wonderful, humble attitude about the whole thing...not easy in an environment where I'm sure it's easy to get way too wrapped up in oneself. If this event is in the Southeast next time, I'd go out of my way to attend.
