Here in rural North Carolina, it doesn't mean much when you tell people that you've got an internet video that has been seen over a million times. But, if you tell them you're on the local news, you've hit the big time. Well, here you go:
Thanks so much to Scott Mason and Tom Normanly for dropping by and featuring us! (We also performed the BBQ Song live in their studio for the Noon News a few weeks back. You can see that here.)
Wow. The entire Youtube Live weekend was overwhelming, and we're still processing it all. The actual event was definitely entertaining (with our personal favorite being Bo Burnham's Song), but the highlight for us was all the people we met. There was so much potential for pretentiousness, with everyone obsessing over subscriber numbers and viewcounts, but we can honestly say that we were privileged to get to know some amazing people. Last night's late-night scene really captures how surreal the whole thing was. We were playing a highly competitive game of Cranium at 3AM with sxephil, smosh, nigahiga, happyslip, kevjumba, Mr. Safety, charlestrippy, Bo Burnham, Joe Bereta, shaycarl, and a number of other people. We kept thinking we should turn on a camera and create the best collab video in history, but we really didn't want to be "those guys".
The whole weekend really captured the fact that the internet, and more specifically Youtube, has created its own culture and community. People with unique talents are able to do what they love for people who appreciate it, and the combined voice of that community (both the producers and the consumers) holds great potential and requires great responsibility. We're just glad we were able to be there and be part of something much bigger than Rhett&Link.
Here's some video evidence of our time at Youtube Live, including MC Hammer losing his phone at his after-party:

Let us know what you'd like to see at Youtube Live!
We want to say a belated thanks to Jordan and Tyler for filling in and hosting the RhettandLinKast Live last night. They did an excellent job in spite of the late notice! Check out their show every Monday night at 8PM Central.
Live video by Ustream
Tune in tonight at 9PM EST for the RhettandLinKast. Actually...show up around 8:30pm for the preshow. We'll give you the scoop on the plans for our trip to YouTube Live in San Francisco.
Plus, JGHue and his compadre Tyler will be helping host the show. Amongst other top secret things, they will be on a fact-finding mission tonight. Help them gather information on our two SuperNote winners--FunkMaster and Cephas76--so that we can write their prize theme songs for em!
So comment, are you gonna be here or what?!
"How fun they are!" Indeed!

Congrats on the interview, guys! WAY TO GO - finally getting the exposure you've LONG deserved!! Too bad they got one of your names wrong though - you should have corrected them. It's Rhettwood - not Redwood! :P

Wow...I didn't realize we had such a great duo living in Harnett County! BTW, I had Ms. Locklear her first year teaching. She was my 3rd grade teacher at Mary Stewart School in Dunn. What a great lady and teacher she was.
Good luck for the future.

"Red and Link"
I like it! :-)
AudreyAnna · Nov 25, 2008 12:15pm
I agree with Brian, the inteview was very well put together. :)
Two things I observed in the video...
#1 Link always looks fabulous when he wears that blue shirt. #2 I also think the reporter guy is calling Rhett 'Red'...maybe he had a cold?
You did a great job, Guys, this was an awesome interview!
Mamacitax7 · Nov 25, 2008 11:56am
haha. That was fun to watch.
good interview!
Nicole (RandomNigel) · Nov 25, 2008 10:59am
That's was a great segment! I just wish it had been longer, but that's pretty much for every video you guys are a part of.
I did really love the newslady's comment "how fun they are!"
sunny_gf · Nov 25, 2008 10:48am
That was really well put together! What a great summary of your work... WRAL has your interview listed as the most popular video as well http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/4022360/
While it's great watching you in your "professional" personas you made up for this segment... The interview where you just let that all drop showed your true real North Carolina selves shine through was great too: http://www.wral.com/entertainment/video/3448890/
Brian Layman · Nov 25, 2008 10:32am
Good work guys! Congrats on making it to the "big time!" Haha
KJ · Nov 25, 2008 10:28am
It was fun to see the studio from that perspective. and w00t on the BBQ song being "featured," (if one can call it that). Congratulations, boiz! I'm off to blog and Facebook this now!
JardinPrayer · Nov 25, 2008 10:26am
Congrats :) have you made a song about the "TFP - toilet flushing problem" yet?...
publicity has its price!
flush it once, flush it twice!
....
Saraparker · Nov 25, 2008 10:21am
It sounds like he calls Rhett, Red
brianminor · Nov 25, 2008 10:20am
Entree-preneurs? Good stuff guys! Glad to see that all of Harnett County will now be following you on Twitter. Actually...how much of Harnett County do you think actually HAS a Twitter account?
